Your Worst Self isn’t “Human”
“I’m only human.”
This is what many people say after behaving crappily. It’s easy to say they’re just justifying their actions, but I think there’s more to the issue. People believe their flaws are their most human part.
I’m under the impression the opposite is true. Ancient humans behaved perfectly. There wasn’t time to do things that pissed off fellow tribe members because it could have killed you.
Disputes must be resolved immediately and permanently. Someone can’t hold a grudge while in their most human state because it’s antithetical to survival.
The most human, primal person has flawless execution. They don’t mess up or they become a lion’s lunch.
I’m not arguing we should have a rigid standard of perfection, but there’s nothing natural or human about flawed behavior.
