Writing and Blogging

I struggle to make words appear on the screen. I’m without inspiration. My thoughts are everywhere and nowhere. Chaotic and still. Brilliant but lost.

The thing about blogging is that you write for others. You don’t write for yourself, not always. Your ultimate goal is providing value to the reader.

Every post has a call to action. Every sentence is constructed to build your personal brand. Every word is designed to enhance your digital prescience.

Getting lost in writing doesn’t happen because the prime concern is satisfying someone else. Scratching and clawing for more shares and likes and comments. Scrounging for feedback.

Bloggers often aren’t writers first. There’s some other industry. They blog to add a star to their digital footprint. They blog to demonstrate expertise. They blog to expand their network. This is wonderful because blogging is excellent for everyone.

But for the unacquainted writer, blogging is challenging.

We must ensure all posts provide identifiable value.

We must consider how every word affects our brand.

We must accommodate short attention spans.

We must work for our online presence.

We must make our posts flawless.

We must write for others.

We no longer write about our deepest ideas. Complex explanations remain in our head. Radical vocabulary stays away. It’s not about writing eloquently. It’s about maximizing our audience.

It’s okay, though, because blogging isn’t something only writers should do. It’s something everyone should do.
